“And I want you for all time…”

As well as writing songs that tell stories, I love to take other artists’ songs, from different genres, and add my own jazz-infused flavour to them. I also like to reshape well-known songs from a different perspective.

One example is Wichita Lineman, that wonderful song by Jimmy Webb that was made famous by Glen Campbell and contains the beautiful lyrics: “and I need you more than want you and I want you for all time”. (sigh)

It is written from the point of view of the “Lineman” who misses his love as he’s out on the road. I’ve rearranged it to sing as the voice of the woman, left at home and missing her “Lineman”.

I have a fan in Japan who has added my track to his Soundcloud playlist of 19 cover versions of the song!

Let me know what you think of my version.
